Greene County Development Corporation is inviting all members of the community to be involved in several projects the GCDC board has named as priorities for the next two or three years.
GCDC executive director Ken Paxton at the Sept. 28 town hall meeting provided a list of the nine projects and spoke briefly about each one. The projects, in no particular order, include:
Youth sports complex that could include baseball, softball, soccer and/or football fields
Covered arena at the fairgrounds that would focus on horse shows and horse-related events, but could also host livestock shows/auctions, motocross, flea markets or live entertainment
Water park/aquatic center/indoor pool, possibly attached to the Greene County Community Center or near the youth sports complex
Highway 30 expanded to four lanes from Ogden to Scranton, with a stronger presence on the Highway 30 Coalition a key tool
Downtown revitalization, which is now underway through Jefferson Matters: Main Street and the city of Jefferson
Expansion of the Greene County Early Learning Center and development of a long range plan for growth
Youth awareness of area businesses and efforts to keep young graduates in the area and to bring past graduates back
New business attraction, particularly in identified areas of need
Development projects that would expand GCDC to work on spec warehouses and retail space, housing rehab and development, and rehab of office and business space.
“For all of these projects to be successful GCDC will need the full support of the community both in funding and committee membership,” Paxton said.
